Last weekend at the Dublin International Karate tournament in the National Basketball Arena, Dublin the best International Karate Union students from across Ireland and England took part in a fantastic day of competition. Karate students from Scrabo Karate Club and Carnalea Karate Club were in action and once again in the medals.

Gold went to Levi Kane in the All-Styles Senior Ladies kata division. Coach Kevin Lewis added “it’s great to see Levi getting back to form following her injury last year.”

Levis’ teammate Rachael Fleming shone at the competition, taking individual silver in her kata, bronze in her individual sparring and silver in the team sparing with Amy Adair and Erin Ward.

Both Jacq Watton and Ben McIlroy were on top form both taking individual silver in their sparring with Ben adding another bronze for the team sparring with Karl Andreasson and Matthew Dales.

Other good performances on the day were from Charlotte and Ben Rylance and Amy McCormick.

Coach Lewis was very pleased with the performances “We took a fairly small squad to this event and were very pleased to see so many great performance this early in the year.”

Classes are now in full swing at all our clubs and beginners of all ages are welcome. There are still a few spaces in our new Ninjas Class on Tuesday’s in Ards Leisure Centre from 4.15pm – 5.00pm for beginners 3-5year olds (with a parent).
