David a former triple world champion has just returned from the IKU European Championships in Romania as European Veteran All-Styles Kata Champion.
David commented. “This is a timely win for me. I like many people are very excited that our football team are going to the Euros. I have been a fan since the Billy Bingham era and actually got my originally IFA coaching qualification from Roy Miller back in 1985. I feel it is fantastic that our young athletes are inspired by Northern Ireland’s sporting success at international level and hope that we have great performances at the Euros.”
Northern Ireland Karate coach Dermott McLaughlin was delighted with this win adding ‘David’s more upright style of karate, Wado-Ryu, makes it very challenging to beat the more dynamic styles such as Shitoryu and Shukokai. However on this occasion, as in previous performances David was excellent and fully deserved the title. David has been out of international competition for a few years, but decided to give it a go again this year using medal winning performances at the Britiah and Northern Ireland Championships as preparation.” Brashaw added “The standard across the board this year was very high. It feel super to have worked for this and brought another title back to the province.”
